There was a long time I didn’t watch many movies. Or tv. Or music other than contemporary christian. I always hesitate to bring any of that up because I guess I’m still kind of piecing all those choices together and making sense of that 15 year period where I lived in a bubble. Without going into all that, let me just say that when I came out of it, and when the depression got better to the point where I could sit though movies, that was a mind blowing experiencing catching up on all the awesomesauce I had been missing.
I’m still catching up and hearing about movies I’ve missed. I’ve been listening to a podcast by a couple of guys called The Lazy Muses. I started listening because one of the guys is a friend from high school that I reconnected with after doing some head shots for him a few years ago. I always thought he was a terrific actor and when people are that talented, I want to know what they’ve done with it. Especially since I don’t live close enough to see any of his shows. After listening for awhile, I realized this was a great resource for finding out about all kinds of movies that I’d never heard of.
The Austrian is pretty good about exposing me to tv series that he thinks I’ll love and I owe Dr Who, Game of Thrones, Firefly and tons of other new favorites to my wonderful husband.
I’m learning to just let myself like things. And being ok with it. The guys on the podcast like to say “Love what you love and love it unabashedly,” and that is a great reminder for me, coming out of a long period of time where either I didn’t allow myself to watch certain things or the church culture I was in making me feel guilty for wanting to watch certain things.
Here’s to freedom and watching what you love.
